Reverser, S&D / NER Bouch Screw Reverser

Detailed lost wax casting of a Bouch combined reverser. This special reverser was capable of a fast direction change (using the lever) and fine adjustment of the cut-off via the hand wheel on the end.

This reverser is specifically designed to fit Stockton & Darlington Railway ‘Ginx’s Baby’ 4-4-0 (later 2-4-0) locomotives, later NER Class 1238 and 1265.  It is also suitable for other S&D Classes.  It was also a common feature on the NER O Class, later LNER G5 which were almost exclusively fitted with this device.
